BrightClient integration for Self-Assessment and Irish Self-Assessment client types is not available in the current release. This article explains what this means for your practice, how Self-Assessment clients behave in BrightManager, and what to expect when switching client types.
What this means for Self-Assessment clients
Self-Assessment and Irish Self-Assessment client records — both new and existing — will not synchronise with BrightClient in this release. You can continue to create and manage these clients locally in BrightManager as normal. All other client types are fully integrated with BrightClient.
| Note: Full BrightClient integration for Self-Assessment clients is planned for a future release. This article will be updated when that functionality becomes available. |
What you will see on a Self-Assessment client file
- A banner notification appears at the top of the page to let you know that BrightClient features are not available for this client type.
- The Bright b logo and BrightClient record search are not displayed on these files.
- The updated address fields, separate email fields, and validation rules introduced as part of the BrightClient integration are still in place and apply to Self-Assessment clients.
Switching client types
| Change made | What happens |
|---|---|
| Self-Assessment changed to another client type (e.g. Limited Company) | BrightClient features become available immediately and synchronisation begins. |
| Any client type changed to Self-Assessment | BrightClient features are immediately disabled and synchronisation stops. |
Person records linked to Self-Assessment clients
| Important: If the person record linked to a Self-Assessment client has already been synchronised with BrightClient through another client file, updates to that person record — such as changes to their NI number or date of birth — will sync back into the Self-Assessment file in BrightManager. This ensures the data in BrightManager stays current. However, the Self-Assessment profile itself is not synchronised into BrightClient as a client record. |
BrightManager and BrightClient status mapping
| BrightManager status | BrightClient status |

| Prospect | Prospect |
| Active | Active |
| No Longer a Client (NLAC) | Disengaged |
Troubleshooting
The BrightClient banner is not disappearing from a Self-Assessment file
This is expected behaviour. The banner remains on all Self-Assessment and Irish Self-Assessment client files until full BrightClient integration for these client types is released.
A Self-Assessment client's contact details are updating unexpectedly
If the person linked to the Self-Assessment client is also linked to another client file that is synchronised with BrightClient, updates to that person record will flow back into BrightManager. This is by design and ensures your data stays consistent across your Bright products.
