Overview
BrightClient stores multiple address types for each client and contact — such as a registered office address, trading address, home address, and correspondence address. It also keeps a history of previous addresses, so you always have an accurate record of where a client has been based over time.
When working on a client record, you can reuse an existing address or add a new one.
| 📋 Residential addresses stay in sync across contacts |
| When a residential address is updated on any contact, BrightClient automatically synchronises that change to all other contacts linked to the same person. This ensures a person's home address is always consistent across all of their roles and client relationships. |
| In a future release, residential addresses will move to the person record directly, making this behaviour structural rather than sync-based. |
Before You Start
| ⚠️ Important |
| You must have already selected a client or contact before searching for an address. The address field will remain empty until a client or contact has been chosen. |
Address Types
Each address in BrightClient is assigned a type. When you search for an address, the most relevant type for your current task will appear first. The full list of address types available in BrightClient is:
| Address type | Typically used for |
| Registered Office Address | The official registered address for a business — required for companies registered at Companies House or the CRO |
| SAIL Address | Single Alternative Inspection Location — an address where company records can be inspected instead of the registered office |
| Trading Address | Where the business operates from day to day, if different from the registered office |
| Bank Address | The address associated with the client's bank account |
| Postal Address | The address used for general postal correspondence |
| Invoice Address | The address to which invoices should be sent |
| Officer Service Address | The address used for serving documents on a company officer, such as a director |
| PSC Service Address | The address used for serving documents on a Person of Significant Control |
| Residential Address | The personal home address of an individual. Changes to this address are automatically synchronised across all contacts linked to the same person — see note above |
| Shareholder/Member Contact Address | The contact address for a shareholder or member of a company or LLP |
| 📋 Note |
| Not all address types will be relevant for every client. The types available in the address dropdown will reflect the client type and the information already held in BrightClient for that record. |
